Fahrenheit to Celcius:
Step 1: Subtract 32 from degrees F.
Step 2: Multiply by 5/9 (or 0.56).
Example: 80 degrees F.
Step 1: 80-32=48
Step 2: 48/1 x 5/9 = 240/9 = 26.67 degrees C.
or
Step 2: 48 x 0.56 = 26.88 degrees C.
Either way, even with the error in rounding the decimal, the difference might make 2 degrees difference but usually with rounding the error doesn't make any difference. Very few things in cooking are dependent on 1 or 2 degrees difference that it's easier to use the decimal for calculation. However, a huge exception is candy making. That 1 or 2 degrees of difference will often matter. so in that case, use the more precise method of calculating the conversion by using the fraction approach to step 2.
Celsius to Fahrenheit
Step 1: Degrees C x 1.8
Step 2: Step 1 result + 32 = Degrees F
Example: 100 Degrees C
Step 1: 100 x 1/8 = 180
Step 2: 180 + 32 = 212 Degrees F.
